tiko Energy Solutions

Description

Founded in the aftermath of Fukushima in 2012 as a joint venture between Swisscom and Repower. First time worldwide demand-side management with residential assets for the secondary frequency control market in 2014 and primary frequency control in 2016. Followed by European expansion (Germany, France, Austria)  and majority takeover by the French energy group ENGIE.

tiko is the combination of a virtual power plant (VPP) and an energy management system (EMS). Renewable energies might lead to fluctuations, and solutions such as tiko, which allow stabilization, are essential to increase the share of renewable energy in the mix. Systems of demand management, or aggregation, are familiar in big companies. Still, tiko is original in addressing households and using the flexibility of their existing residential equipment to supply balance energy.
